Carne Asada (Marinated beef) recipe Share this recipe on FacebookCarne Asada is a typical Mexican grilled marinated beef dish, served in tortillas with salsa and guacamole. The marinading process is used to tenderize the meat. Carne aside can be served with baked potatoes and refried beans for a complete main dish.
Preparation time: 240 minutes, Cooking time: 15 minutes, Serves: 4
Ingredients 2 lb flank steak or similar cut
For the marinade 1/2 cup tequila 1/2 cup lime juice 1/4 cup lemon juice 4 cloves garlic crushed 1 medium onion chopped 1 tsp black pepper 1 cup salsa 1 cup guacamole 1 tsp tabasco sauce
12 flour tortillas
To serve Salsa Guacamole Sour cream
Directions In a large bowl add the tequila, lime juice, lemon juice and tabasco sauce. Add the garlic, onion and black pepper and stir well to combine all ingredients. Add the beef and toss well in the marinade, until well covered in it. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours, turning meat often.
Preheat grill.
You can warm the tortillas in the oven or microwave but since you will be using the grill, you can use that to warm them through. To heat the tortillas using the grill, sprinkle them with a few drops of water (this will keep them soft), stack them up and wrap them in aluminum foil. Place them on the grill.
Remove the meat from the marinade (reserve the marinade). Place it on the grill abd cook it for 12 to 15 minutes, turning once midway. Brush the beef steak with the marinade during grilling.
Remove steak and tortillas from the grill. Slice the steak into long, thin stripes. To serve, place warm tortilla on a plate, top with a few strips of beef and top with salsa, sour cream and guacamole.
