Ingredients 2 ripe avocados 1/2 medium red onion, finely chopped 1 serrano chile, stems and seeds removed, finely chopped 2 Tbsp cilantro (coriander) leaves, finely chopped 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice 1/2 ripe tomato, seeds and pulp removed, chopped 1/2 tsp salt or to taste Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Directions Cut the avocados in half and remove seed. Scoop out the avocado flesh and put in a mixing bowl.
Using a fork, mash the avocado. Leave in a few chunky pieces if you want. Add the serrano chile, chopped red onion, cilantro leaves, lime juice and tomato. Season with salt and black pepper and mix well, using a spoon.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 to 3 hours. Notes and tips To check if an avocado is ripe, gently press the outside of the avocado. If
there is no give, the avocado is not ripe yet. If there is a little give, the avocado is just ripe. If there is a lot of
give, the avocado is probably past ripe and will not be good.
You can try experimenting with your guacamole recipe by adding or removing ingredients. You can create a guacamole dip by processing all ingredients in a blender. Some typical ingredient substitutions are teh following:
To create a guacamole dip, remove the tomatoes and add sour cream. Add all ingredients to a blender and process until smooth and creamy. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours.
To make a chunky guacamole sauce, do not mash the avocado. Instead, cut it into chucnks using a fork. Add in the rest of the ingredients and slowly mix.
A tip for keeping the avocadoes from getting brown is to put the avocado seed into the sauce. Remove the seed and discard before serving.
