Basic Picante sauce recipe Share this recipe on FacebookA Mexican tomato based sauce using Jalapeno chiles, onion and coriander. This sauce is cooked and can be used in recipes that call for a tomato based sauce such as burritos, enchiladas or chimichangas. The Picante salsa is the uncooked version of this sauce and it uses similar ingredients. Salsa Picante can be used as a dip with tortilla chips or as a side dish with many Mexican dishes.
Preparation time: 5 minutes, Cooking time: 30 minutes, Serves: 4
Ingredients 1 large onion, finely chopped 1 fresh jalapeno pepper, finely chopped 6 medium ripe tomatoes, seeded and finely chopped 6 Tbsp vegetable oil 1 clove garlic, minced 1 tsp salt 1/4 tsp granulated sugar 1 Tbsp finely chopped fresh cilantro (coriander)
Directions Heat the oil over medum in a saucepan. Saute the onio for about 10 minutes, until soft and transluscent. Add the
remaining ingredients, stir, reduce heat and simmer for 10 more minutes.
For a milder version, use 1/2 or 1/3 of the jalapeno chili.
