Removing baked food from glass baking dishes Cleaning dishes can sometimes be a tough job. To remove baked food from baking dishes, scrape off and discard loose bits of food. Add dishwasher detergent and pour hot water in the dish. Stir the solution well and let it sit overnight. By the next morning all baked on food will have dettached from the dish. Clean as usual, using water and soap. |
Storing olive oil Store olive oil at room temperature, away from light, heat and air. Avoiding to do so will cause olive oil to turn rancid, if left for a long time. Do not store olive oil in the refrigerator as it solidifies at 36 degrees Fahrenheit. |
Storing nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds) Always store nuts in the refrigerator or freezer in airtight containers. Before using, bring them to room temperature. Nuts stored in the refrigerator will last up to 8 months. When stored in the freezer, they may last up to 2 years. When storing them for a long time, always taste them before using them in recipes. If they are rancid, discard them. |
Serving ice cream Leave the ice cream at room temperature for about 8 minutes before serving. This will make the serving process much easier. Cover the opened ice cream tighly with plastic wrap and store it in the refrigarator immediately after serving to avoid the creation of ice crystals. Serving the ice cream in chilled bowls will make it keep its shape much longer. |
Boiling temperature for eggs Do not hard boil eggs. Simmer them instead. After cooking, remove from hot water and slowly place in cold water. This will stop further cooking and also make them peel off easier. |
Preventing eggs from cracking To prevent eggs from cracking bring them to room temperature before boiling. |
Fresh organic eggs Fresh organic eggs have a better texture and peel off mush easier when cooked. |
Cleaning windows or other glass surfaces To clean windows or other glass surfaces mix 3 parts of water and 1 part of plain white wine or cider vinegar and use it as cleaning liquid. Wipe off the glass surface with a newspaper. The result will be amazing. |
Storing cookies Always use airtight containers or cookie jars to store cookies. The best cookie jars are the ones with a rubber ring around the top. |
Storing tomato juice Extract tomato juice and put in ice boxes. Store in the freezer. When completely frozen, remove from ice boxes and store in plastic freezer bags. |
